After an unsuccessful partnership with Ford, young British star Colin McRae moved on to a new manufacturer: Subaru. In the early 1990s, the Japanese brand entered the world of rallying with the aim of shining on the world stage as well as in certain highly competitive national championships. In 1991, the Rothmans Subaru UK Rally Team won the British championship thanks to the spectacular Colin McRae! The following year, Subaru Rally Team Europe signed the Scottish driver for a partial WRC program at the wheel of the Legacy RS. His first appearance was at the Rally Sweden. In his third appearance on this quite unique rally, McRae impressed! From the second special stage onwards, he fought for the overall victory. At the finish, he came in second and secured his first podium in the world championship. His success made a strong impression at Subaru, especially as at the same time, his teammate, a certain Ari Vatanen, crashed in the first special stage!
