Since 1982, Group B has been gaining momentum and attracting large crowds of spectators. The 1985 season saw many manufacturers join this race for power. Then, in 1986, Audi and Peugeot developed their cars into true beast machines with impressive aerodynamics. But the 1986 season is best known as the last for Group B. This was due to several fatal accidents, including the very tragic one involving Henri Toivonen during the Tour de Corse. The race offered a superb duel between Toivonen's Delta S4 and Bruno Saby's 205 T16. The Finn was ahead of the Frenchman before crashing violently off the road in SS18. The impact was terrible, and the Lancia and Fiat teams immediately decided to withdraw their crews as a sign of respect. Four Frenchmen then found themselves in the top four places. Peugeot Sport left it up to the new leader, Bruno Saby, to decide whether or not to continue the race. He continued the rally and secured his first victory in the world championship!
