Between 1997 and 1999, Jason Plato drove for the William Renault team in a Laguna. The British driver had a superb 1997 season. He won two races and finished on the podium seven times. He finished third in the 1997 BTCC championship. In 98 and 99, he only managed one win a year, but took a few podiums. On each occasion, he finished fifth in the championship. His Nescafé livery is still remembered as one of the most famous in the history of British motor racing.
