At the end of the 1980s, Renault decided to launch high-end versions of its models. The Supercinq, Clio, R25, and Laguna were given “Baccara” finishes to compete with their German rivals. It was a bold move, but crucial at a time when luxury finishes were highly sought after regardless of the car. The first Laguna was one of the last Renaults to feature this “Baccara” finish, in the fall of 1995. The French sedan was equipped with a luxurious leather and linen interior. ABS was standard, and sportiness was ensured by a 170-horsepower V6 engine.
